NES sells for $13,105

Many of you might wonder what makes this NES worth 10,000, well you can read the original article here or I can summarize what came with the NES:

Yes, this girl had a boxed copy of Stadium Events. A complete one, with instruction manual and everything, which according to sites only 10 full copies exist.

Jealous? Envious? I sure am.

Funny how the game is basically World Class Track Meet, but an earlier test version sold before the Power Pad came out.

Game Review: Wrath of the Black Manta (NES)

Made by Taito, I have to say this game is terrible.

First of all, when I look at this game I see a Ninja that is apparently this Black Manta, you can even see this for yourself

Now when I start the game I get some cool music and a Taito title screen, alright let's skip that, I want to play the game. Well guess what you can't, for 15 seconds of your life you have to wait for the Taito title screen to finish sitting there with trademark and credit info. Then after that you get a dialogue scene, no not the cool cut scenes of today, just pixel based pictures and slow scrolling dialogue. That's not a problem, but it was so long I skipped it even though it must have been important. It actually happens in the game a bit too, I skip those as well.

Now as for starting the game, you can see from the box art that is apparently the Black Manta, actually no it isn't. Funny as it is, you are a PURPLE CLAD NINJA. How can you be taken seriously as a ninja if you wear purple, if he was my assassin i'd have my last laugh right there and then.

Okay, gameplay wise the game gets worse. Enemies go down with one hit but because there are two areas on screen you can stand, the enemies can jump up to. The problem is they can jump up into you, making you take damage. They also follow you through doors and wait at the door to shoot you to, it's that annoying. And as for some of the special moves you have, it's near impossible to make them work right. What you do is that you hold down the B button, the only weapon or attack button at all, and you use the D pad to specifically pick out a power. Half the time I ended up cloning myself and having my purple clad ninja clone standing on top of my head, and he does nothing. And you can't just shoot, it has to build up in strength which doesn't work for this game unless you want to risk showing off and dying. The enemies attack fast enough to make each attempt at using a special power pointless, and sometimes the attacks don't work the first time.

Whats even worse about this game is that your so slow when walking, it seems so delayed. I died way too fast in this game, ferocity won't help you in this game, you have to patiently and carefully lure the enemies toward you while dodging their attacks and killing them with two tries at the minimum. They respawn if you stand there too.

Geez, this game sucks. I'm giving it a 1 out of 5 for being poorly executed in every way. This is the company that made space invaders and jungle hunt for god's sake, some may feel differently than me about this game, but it just sucked for me. If you want to trade something for it, i'll take anything over it.

Mega Man...for Atari?

Why didn't this happen..or did it?

When I saw this megaman for Atari demo I was thinking it was a home brew creation, a very good homebrew creation, but then I realized it would've been a lawsuit waiting to happen.

After much searching I found here that this is indeed a homebrew creation. Or at least I think so, but it's cool nonetheless.

So after a while I found this:

If this homebrew copy is made and sold, it's an automatic buy for me. But damn the website isn't up yet after I clicked all the links and found this link:

http://www.iam8bit.com

and got nothing..yet.

This is a cruel game the websites are playing with us, but man I hope this game gets made.

Classic Game Review: Mega Man 2 (NES)

After the giant success Capcom had with Mega Man, they decided to make a sequal. For this game they would ramp up the difficulty, and make it even harder than the first game, coming out 2 years after the original Mega Man, Mega Man 2 looks a lot like the first game, but does it live up to expectations?

The short answer to that is "Yes". Mega Man 2 gives us more of the same side-scrolling hardcore platforming that we now expect from the series, while giving us a bunch of new robot masters to defeat, and in turn giving us a bunch of new weapons to acquire from them.

The game is tough, probobly a little bit harder than the first game, and I got pretty frustrated with it. But that just makes it better when you get past a stage, or beat another boss. I got up and danced more than once while playing through Mega Man 2, because I felt so accomplished at some points.

Overall, Mega Man 2 is a great game, and definitely a classic. Anybody who hasn't played it yet should, especially people looking for a great side-scrolling platformer. The game holds up today just as well as it did back then simply because, like most NES games, it doesn't rely on graphics to be good. For this game, it's all about the gameplay.

I give Mega Man 2 on the NES a 5 out of 5.

Nintendo World Championship on Ebay

I heard it here that someone is putting an original GOLD cartridge (gold colored mind you) of Nintendo World Championship on Ebay.

In my excitement as a relatively new NES collector, I went out to find it.

I did, and i'm so tempted to buy it myself. It's so stupid though because its just Mario, Tetris, and Rad Racer on one cartridge. But the fact that only less than a hundred exist, especially with like 20 of them being Gold is amazing. If you own one, your basically a NINTENDO GOD.

I want it, but i'm going to have to pass. If I really want one i'll buy the reproduction cartridge available.

It's simply amazing the guy wants 25,000 bucks for it, i'm sure he'll take a little less.

Btw, this is the 100th post for Geeksquisite, and we're only 33 days into our blog.

Wii Price Drop?

LINK

"Wii supply has finally exceeded demand, so we expect hardware sales to show year-over-year decreases for the first half of 2009," predicts Pachter, continuing, "In order to hit its full-year Wii shipment forecast, we expect Nintendo to cut the price of the Wii before [the] holiday, likely to $199.99." -Michael Pachter

Smart move in my opinion. But it's too late for me. This year at E3 I learned the differences between the systems, and even though I want a PS3 like I never did before, it's different with Nintendo. Nintendo showed some good games, but i'm starting to notice how when they announced the new Dead Space game I was envious, then realized most games have to be butchered to get on the Wii. And I realize, Nintendo doesn't allow alot of creativity with their 1999 graphics and soon-to-be obsolete motion technology. I'm done with Nintendo, I'm even junking my DS on ebay because of the gameplay being short lived.

Also, Sony and Microsoft have alot more to offer. Nintendo is really becoming the console for little kids, and as much as I love my NES. They aren't what they used to be.

So, I continue my quest to beat Megaman 2 on the NES, however... it proves to be tougher than I thought.

Geeksquisite Gaming Diary 06/08/2009: Megaman 2

So, I've been playing a bit of Megaman 2. This is my first time playing through any of the real classic megaman games, I give you my thoughts on it so far.

Batman on NES

Earlier in the week we briefly mentioned Batman: Arkham Asylum on our podcast, and touched on the fact that most Batman games have sucked. Because there isn't a memorable Batman game that stands away from the large amount of poor Batman games, I decided to delve back to Batman on NES to see if the first attempt on a console worked. It didn't

Batman on NES has "messy" graphics, I'm okay with that. But when enemies come after you, all you have to fight with is your fists. And it is a pain in the neck when you have those robotic contraptions at your feet hurting you every time you kill one. I've avoided taking damage a few times, but mostly have gotten hit. What's even more stupid is that the enemies don't represent any henchmen like resemblance to any Batman enemy I can think of. The enemies are so stock and random.

Only later do I realize that because select is start, start changes your attack from punches to bataarangs, a gun, and other stuff. The sad part is most of the weapons are useless, the gun only shoots straight, the bataarangs are okay, and I don't like punching everything unless its one guy repeatedly.

So does this Batman game stand out as good? I think it's easy to say it doesn't. It's really flawed, but i'll try to beat it without getting too annoyed.

I give it a 1 out of 5

Am I saying Batman: Arkham Asylum will suck too? No, but gamers have played enough of them to be uninterested. I hope it defies expectations to suck.

Captain Skyhawk on NES Review

The one game I didn't feel like playing, all because it was made by Milton Bradley. For some reason I didn't think they could make a good NES game. Holy Mother of God was I right about Captain Skyhawk.

This game is terrible. The music is good, the intro is pretty good. When you start firing at enemies with a choice of simple firing and mass firing you'd think your all set. But some things are really messed up about this game.

First the geography, never before in my life have I forgotten frequently out of frustration that you can't slow down or go backward. You can only steer where your lead footed pilot is going, and it doesn't help that the hills and mountains seem to be below you. But when you touch the area where their pixels are, the mountains kill you. There's no graphical design to make them look level with your plane, if you touch them, your dead. And it's weird because you can dip down with the plane, but when you start at max height you're still able to be hit by the mountains; so it's pointless.

So being you can't slow down you have to really dart around the map, and at first I had no idea the map moved side to side. When I did I was relieved to avoid hitting a mountain close to me, but you are touching the side of the screen to move the view. It'd make more sense to allow a little space when flying to the side so you can see other hills and mountains before you hit them. Nope, this game had me hitting a mountain without knowing it as i tried to steer away from mountains and enemies.

On top of that the enemies are almost 100 percent of the time moving on the areas without the mountains, and once again the lack of being able to slow down or stop makes me shoot wildly to get them out of the way.

I can't last two minutes on Skyhawk, it frustrates the heck out of me. This game is worse than Fester's Quest. It's so bad, here is my score.

I give it a 0 out of 5

Avoid this game, if you get it for free or have to take it along with other games. Use it as a dissection project to learn the contents of an NES game as to what's inside. Use it for smashing. Use it to prop up something. But don't play it.
