I WANT ONE :D
Harmonix, Rock Band 3, and Natal
Rock Band 3 yo!
I always wondered, would I buy a third Rock Band game? No i'm not talking about Beatles Rock Band, I actually am not interested in that game. But I thought Rock Band 2 would be my last Rock Band Franchise game i would get, until Harmonix had this to say.
"We aren't standing still – we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft,"
Natal eh? that catches my interest. Imagine if you didnt have to see your avatar on stage rock in random directions, imagine if you avatar mimics your movements through Natal. That's a nice idea but I bet Harmonix has more ideas in store than that, and I'm curious to what they will implement.
Does this mean Natal will come out in September, that's the release month for Harmonix's games so Natal would have to be out if they're including such functionality.

Game Review: Wrath of the Black Manta (NES)
First of all, when I look at this game I see a Ninja that is apparently this Black Manta, you can even see this for yourself
Now when I start the game I get some cool music and a Taito title screen, alright let's skip that, I want to play the game. Well guess what you can't, for 15 seconds of your life you have to wait for the Taito title screen to finish sitting there with trademark and credit info. Then after that you get a dialogue scene, no not the cool cut scenes of today, just pixel based pictures and slow scrolling dialogue. That's not a problem, but it was so long I skipped it even though it must have been important. It actually happens in the game a bit too, I skip those as well.
Now as for starting the game, you can see from the box art that is apparently the Black Manta, actually no it isn't. Funny as it is, you are a PURPLE CLAD NINJA. How can you be taken seriously as a ninja if you wear purple, if he was my assassin i'd have my last laugh right there and then.
Okay, gameplay wise the game gets worse. Enemies go down with one hit but because there are two areas on screen you can stand, the enemies can jump up to. The problem is they can jump up into you, making you take damage. They also follow you through doors and wait at the door to shoot you to, it's that annoying. And as for some of the special moves you have, it's near impossible to make them work right. What you do is that you hold down the B button, the only weapon or attack button at all, and you use the D pad to specifically pick out a power. Half the time I ended up cloning myself and having my purple clad ninja clone standing on top of my head, and he does nothing. And you can't just shoot, it has to build up in strength which doesn't work for this game unless you want to risk showing off and dying. The enemies attack fast enough to make each attempt at using a special power pointless, and sometimes the attacks don't work the first time.
Whats even worse about this game is that your so slow when walking, it seems so delayed. I died way too fast in this game, ferocity won't help you in this game, you have to patiently and carefully lure the enemies toward you while dodging their attacks and killing them with two tries at the minimum. They respawn if you stand there too.
Geez, this game sucks. I'm giving it a 1 out of 5 for being poorly executed in every way. This is the company that made space invaders and jungle hunt for god's sake, some may feel differently than me about this game, but it just sucked for me. If you want to trade something for it, i'll take anything over it.
AVATAR DAY IMPRESSIONS
Got a chance to see the 15 minute preview and it was quite mind blowing at times. There are some shots that seriously look like a guy in a latex suit like Abe Sapian sort of but it’s all 100% CGI. It might even look a bit more real because latex suits do have certain look to them and I think the skin on the aliens is incredible. The one thing that kept throwing off the reality of them was the eyes because they aren’t proportioned like humans. Seriously though like 5 minutes into the footage I didn’t see it anymore. This is the best CG I’ve seen especially for every single thing in the frame being CG. Everyone states Benjiman Button or Davy Jones or Gollum but they were just 1 single character. Here the screen is simply filled to the brim with effects and most of them do look photo real. It’s extremely impressive. For me the weakest part were a few of the Dragon shots but there were others where I actually felt like I could touch it. So I will admit it’s a tiny bit uneven but it’s much further then I’ve seen movies go before.
I totally see why the trailer has been disappointing people but trust me the 3D and the size have a lot to do with it. There is SOOOOOO much detail in the skin of the Na’vi that you just can’t see on a 2 inch face on a computer screen. Is it safe to lower your expectations a bit from it being 100% real, yes. But it’s not the huge disappointment a lot of people seem to think it is based off the internet trailer. I’d say they are really far along, they just need to work on the eyes a bit but everything else was incredible.
And of course I have to mention the 3D. It’s not 3D like you think of 3D, it’s extremely realistic I would say. Most of the time when you see 3D your aware of it, and I won’t say I wasn’t at all aware because duh I was seeing a 3D movie with ridiculous looking glasses. It was pretty close, when I came home I looked at angles of entering rooms and such just to compare. It was weird but the 3D in the footage felt super natural, nothing jarring. The only part where it was a bit tough was in the jungle chase scene with this like space panther thing. I think I was a bit too close to the screen so that might have been the issue, very ungimmicky 3D.
A Few quick thoughts:
I'd like to see a shot of live action humans interacting with the Na’vi. That is something we don't really get to see much of in the footage aside from a small clip of Jake Sully waking up in his Avatar form. I think they could have got a few nay sayers by showing more footage of them interacting.
Some of the creatures like the space rhino need some more work. It didn't look all that convincing. The space panther thing was easily the most impressive of the creatures showing. I can't wait to see it again.
The backgrounds and landscapes are practically perfect. I mean maybe a special effects artist could tell what was going on but it looked real to me.
I was amazed with the amount of detail in every single frame of the film. There is so much that I think people are pointing out the 1 or 2 things that don't quite look right and forgetting about the 1 million others that look perfect. A part of that uncanny valley I assume.
The dialogue in a few parts was a bit off, but it was also out of context so maybe all together it will work out just fine.
So there you have it December 18th 12:01 Am I will be in line for AVATAR and I think you should be too.

AVATAR MMO Trailer
I have to say that graphically the game is really looking good and that the character designs seems to really work in video game form. I've heard a lot of complaining about the movie and how the characters are too stylized to be real. Here they kind of run with that a little and it isn't so jarring. This MMO will be on the PC and the XBOX 360 this fall. So this might just be the first console MMO that does well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Aaron’s Retro Reviews: Aero The Acrobat
Dear god…I don’t think….I don’t even…
*Sigh*
My buddy is having a get wasted night this week, and I don’t drink…but thanks to the suck of this game, I’m considering it. Drinking or smoking or something…something that would allow me to forget…ugh.
*Sigh*
This is my Aero the Acrobat for the sega genesis review,
If you’ve read my column before, than you may have heard me talk about the “Rad Mascot” years of the 90’s. This was in reference to Rocket Knight Adventures, A surprisingly great game despite the character Sparkster being an attempt to copy Sonic. I chose to go over that game because it was a rare cutesy/rad mascot game that was actually decent to play unlike well…every other attempt with rad mascots in the 90’s…ever. Aero the Acrobat is an example of your usual failed attempt at the rad character, I just happened to luck out that the rest of the game sucks too. The reason I chose Aero was sort of random at first, It was at the top of the rom list (I am not a rich vintage collector, I don’t have every damn Sega game ever, gotta play them somehow) and I vaguely remember the character from the Sega Channel days and seem to remember people actually enjoying it. So this is how It ended up being chosen, something I chose to make my work easier that turned out way worse than I thought.
The game was released by Sunsoft, and developed by Iguana games. Now I’m sure your thinking “Aaron, you’ve done your homework huh?”, well not by choice. The second you fire this turd up you are greeted by painfully blaring midi music and it begins showing company names. Now this is the kind of situation you want to press start and get into the game quickly to escape, but unfortunately this is one of the only games I’ve ever seen that will NOT LET YOU SKIP. You have to endure at least 30 seconds of blaring circus stock midi just to see the company names and title screens so you don’t miss them I guess. If you can’t tell by this point how much “fun” this is going to be, well you must be the kind of person that is a glutton for masochism. The game starts you out in, what else a circus, yay for stock circus midi. You are given five lives which at first I thought was generous. As it turns out you burn through lives like potato chips since primarily everything kills you fairly easily. Spikes and burning hoops kill you instantaneously that’s sort of a given, but when it comes to baddie clowns (clownies?) you have some sort of ambiguous health rate. I still haven’t been able to figure out how many hits kill you because there is no bar, and it always seems randomly sorted somewhere after three hits, yeah that’s not frustrating.
This is only made worse by Aero’s terrible controls. Aero’s primary attack is to spin at enemies (Sonic?) no not like sonic, sideways spinning. However this attack is terribly sort ranged and half the time doesn’t go where you want it to. I can be holding down, right and still manage to attack up,right. Aero can also pick up stars which he can use to attack using the A button, but they come up so few and far between and rarely hit their mark. Additionally both these attacks rarely ever kill certain enemies, in particular this super Franken clown who looks like he’s in cahoots with Satan. This guy can block stars and spin attacks, even from behind somehow and he attacks by throwing balls all over the place in random directions and kicking. Sound like a boss? No, he’s not, he’s an enemy that comes up in the first damn level and every level onward. Aero can also fly for a limited range, which isn’t useful since you can’t move anywhere while doing it. Power ups for flight allow him to actually move while flying and fly longer. The rest of the controls, I.E. Jump, directions are pretty straight forward, just dodgy (as the Brits would say).
So I know what you’re thinking, Circus Screeching and Terrible Controls aside, what about the game play. This is a platformer right, run from left to right and complete the stage in the allotted time? Nope, this game is a platformer/quest completion game in the lightest sense. Each stage has a special goal such as…destroy all the star platforms…or jump through 40 magic hoops. I’m sorry, how is this supposed to stop an evil clown bent on destroying your circus? After completing each inane task you move on to the next one. You know, it’s nice they tried something different, but it makes for a boring game when your running around the same areas looking for that platform you missed. This coupled with the fact that it’s so easy to die, and the fact that when you do die anywhere before the next stage which is 5 acts and a boss away you return to the first act will make you glad Iguana games is defunct, otherwise you’d be strangling them. Actually, I’m in the process of finding their current residences.
Finally, let’s touch on the graphics. This game is a visual eyesore, everything about it is ugly. Aero is hideous in his design, and you get to see giant blown up shots of his ugly mug at the title and stage screens. Looks like he is wearing a little bat toupee. The stages are visually unappealing, even the choice of backdrops and fonts is just irritating to the eyes. It seems as though the staff was working from the book of bad Graphic Design, or more realistically this turd was shat out quick to get the name out there. Everyone wanted a piece of that Sega mascot pie, and Iguana was no exception. Whereas RKA took the Sonic idea and went in it’s own direction resulting in an enjoyable direction, Aero took it and went in the wrong direction.
I have to be fair, after multiple deaths, quick saving and careful stepping, I made it through the first world and boss. However, once greeted with the same objectives in the new stage, I just couldn’t go on…I was done with the game right there. There are still three other worlds, but seriously, it’s not worth it. Don’t buy, don’t download, don’t play this game…it’s abysmal.
Oh, and due to Geeksquisites insistence on a numbered rating system, I’m giving Aero a 1 out of 5.
I wish I could somehow delete the rom harder than I did...maybe like a Delete Plus key.

Please watch in HD.
Here are some photos of the upcoming film. I'll give my thoughts on the trailer and Avatar Footage tomorrow night, after I come back from AVATAR DAY in IMAX.

PS3 Slim: the good and the bad
There's a price to pay for the slimmed PS3, yes its the same price as the big PS3 which seems ridiculous, but there are rumors that there will be a firmware download for the Slim to give it BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY. That would make it worth the buy, but people like me need to have a vertical standing console. Sony sells a STAND for the PS3 slim that is 24 dollars. Yes I am not kidding, 24 dollars for a stand. So before you immediately forget getting the slim due to that BS, check this out:
It's still stupid, but hey, you can choose the bigger one if you so wish or cringe as it wobbles on your table. As for what's good about the Slim, well there are actual buttons on it now and the hard drive is removable.

GC 09: Just Cause 2
This new trailer from GC made me interested in the game, simply because of the possibilities. This one part where the guy hooks the helicopter to the car and carries it before letting it go into a gas station is priceless. All the while, the narrative highlights the beautiful landscapes in the game, and it got me thinking, how can I cause chaos here? haha. I will be checking out this demo, but the amount of chaos and destruction got me more interested in this game than the other trailers did.
The game looks like brainless fun, which I could use, but it depends when in 2010 will it arrive considering the many other games delayed to 2010 are being released.
GC 09: Alan Wake Commentary Trailer
GC 09: Fable 3 Debut Trailer
Not a ton to talk about from this trailer except to say I'm excited to be seeing anything from a sequel so soon. I also wouldn't be surprised if the game implements Project Natal in some way. Peter Molyneux has been so out spoken about Natal that it would be really surprising to me for it not to be involved in some way. Expecially when Peter was already working with the Natal Dev kit just a few months after Fable 2's release. So Fable 3 should be early enough in it's production for them to work with Natal. So I am really curious to see where they take the series.
GC 09: Dead Nation
The look of this game really doesn't make me want to buy it, I can't since I don't have a PS3..yet. But really, an overhead view for a zombie game, theres no satisfaction if you can't be level with the insane creatures and watch them go down. In my opinion, if your even CONSIDERING buying a zombie game, wait for Left 4 Dead 2, because I would be frustrated with the shooting in this game. It's one thing to have an overhead view but its another that you could miss lone zombies running at you. Theres no targeting reticle, and the overhead view might warrant occassional misfires where you shoot PAST the zombie.
Dead Nation and Left 4 Dead are different games in terms of gameplay execution, and I haven't had hands on experience, but where is the thrill if your watching from overhead instead of being down at the level of your player having half dead people running at you.
GC 09: Dreamkiller Trailer Impressions
Now, this is the first time I've seen the game, and I must admit that the concept seems pretty interesting. Hell, even the first part of the trailer seemed very appropriately dark and twisted, with some slight hints at Alice in Wonderland, and the artwork was very nice as well. Everything seemed great, right up until the end of the trailer, where we get a brief glimpse of some gameplay.
The gameplay looks like somebody took a cheesy horror movie and tried to re-make it as an Unreal Tournament mod! Okay, maybe that's being a little overly harsh, but the gameplay does not look interesting at all. It looks like your basic shooter like Quake III or Painkiller. I'm not sure you can make a game like that nowadays and still get away with it! The First-Person genre has evolved into so much more than just shooting. Games like F.E.A.R. and Condemned have done first-person horror the right way, and games like Bioshock and Deus Ex have also delved into the world of atmospheric First-Person games.
I feel like the developers weren't even going for anything like that, and just wanted to make another standard shooter with horror elements. I've got some news for you guys, Doom came out in 1993! It's been done, and from what I've seen of this game, it's been done better!
Maybe it's a bit early to judge, since this is the first time I've seen the game, but my first impression is most definitely not a good one. What do you guys think?
GC 09: Heavy Rain Trailer Impressions
Heavy Rain seems to be looking better and better every time I see it, and the last time we saw the game, at E3, it looked incredibly innovative. Is it just me, though, or do the graphics look even a little more crisp than they did then?
Either way, in the trailer, they reveal a new character that hasn't been shown before. Now, my first thought was that this was one of the four main characters the developer has talked about. However, after getting deeper into the trailer, I'm starting to think that maybe this guy is the killer? He's running from the police, saying how far he'll go for love, looking at the origami killer headlines on the newspaper in disgust... It all seems to make him look like the killer.
If that's so, and he IS the killer, I'm a little confused as to why they're showing his face this early, and then it hit me. What if one of the four main characters WAS the killer?! This would be ingenious! You could view the story from multiple character's perspectives, it would make a deep contrast between the characters, and possibly blur the line between right and wrong. Not only that, but it would definitely give the story even more depth than what people are already expecting.
Look for Heavy Rain when it's released for the PS3, Early 2010.

GC 09: PS3 Slim Announced!
Interesting Facts:
120 gb harddrive
32% smaller
36% lighter
34% less power consumption
Price: 299.99
Aside from the fact that I think it looks pretty ugly. It seems to be a really good deal if you haven't gotten a PS3 yet. This could be the fall they turn it around, we'll have to wait and see.
Do You Want To Date My Avatar?
Brutal Legend Demo Release Date
We just couldn't wait," Double Fine president Tim Schafer said in a press release
Brutal Legend is turning out to look very good, and hopefully Activision will fail to delay it. But on September 17th we will get to pass judgement on the game and whether it guarantees a buy from some of us. The amount of excitement and hype over the game itself and the fight to delay it by Activision has made this the game of October to check out the demo for.
Get ready for chaos xD that feels oh so right.

White Chicks...2?!
^^^Pretenders with no talent
Wayan's still don't realize they suck
Okay I admit it, I saw the original movie and before I understood the art of film I enjoyed it. But learning over time the values of cinema, White Chicks is actually an abomination of sad comedy attempts. I understand it did okay in the box office tallies but the movie scarred me for life with the gross, disgusting look of the Wayan's brothers pretending to be white women. That I couldn't ignore.
And the Wayans have gotten worse with each movie, one thing they do that shocks the hell out of me is they cater to a lot of stereotypes but they also are actually trying to be meaningful in their movies. And I mean that in the humorous degree because its one sad group of brothers trying to consider themselves professionals. It's one thing to actually try to be meaningful in a movie in the style they have, but don't even get me started on how bad Dance Flick looked. Geez, a sequel though.
Very few sequels ever come as close to the original, and the first one was bad enough that a sequel would probably be worse than...anything. I hope this movie fails badly at the box office because these guys get to do what so many others deserve instead of them. The Wayans made the terrible Scary Movie and they are cut from the same cloth as the makers of Epic Movie. Get these idiots out of the business, I hope the box office for them is as bad as Delgo, which is ironic because Delgo is probably ten times better than White Chicks and it did TERRIBLE.
Moral of the story, avoid any movie made by the Wayan's brothers.
StarCraft 2 Single-Player Revealed
Look I barely played the original so I have no clue how to explain what is going on. All I can tell is that you are the Terrain killing the Zerg. The Terrain are going to be who you play for the whole FIRST solo campaign. The ZERG and PROTOSS will be released in the games that come after. So let me just say HOLY SHIT does this game look amazing. I don't know if my computer can quite handle this but we'll see.

What Are You Getting This Fall?
First thing I know this list starts August 24th but thats Fall enough for me. The list i've made is a giant list of all the big titles coming this fall. Now I am missing a lot of PSP/DS/WII games mainly because I don't follow them as much. So this is mainly a 360/PS3 list. This isn't meant to be a list of every single game coming this fall it's just to show what I am interested in or know something about. Now let me explain a bit further what I mean by the titles of the sections these games come under.
GAMES I NEED: These are the titles that I will scratch and claw in order to play. These are the movies that I will be waiting in line at midnight in order to play through the night they come out. Also I highly doubt Scribblenauts will have a midnight premiere which is a shame.
GAMES I WANT: These are the ones I'd really like to play if I can and even buy if I have the money. I wouldn't be angry if I couldn't play these this fall but I would like too.
GAMES If I HAVE THE EXTRA CASH: pretty self explanatory but these are games I'm interested in but will most likely end up in the rental column if I don't have the money to get this far down the list.
RENTAL: This is a big list of the games I have at last some intrigue about. Lots of reasons to be in this list from I think it could be really good or maybe it would be really bad. Also games I think I might actually love BUT don't see much replay ability in.
NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN: The games I just can't gather myself together to care about. Maybe it's a genre I don't like or maybe I just don't think it looks well polished. Either way the chances of me spending 60 bucks on any of these is slim to non.
Games I NEED:
The Beatles: Rock Band 9/9
Scribblenauts 9/15
Brutal Legend 10/13
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 11/10
Left 4 Dead 2 11/17
Games I Want:
Professor Layton & The Diabolical Box 8/24
Halo 3: ODST 9/22
Assassin's Creed 2 11/17
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves 10/13
Dragon Age Origins 10/20
Borderlands 10/20
Games if I have Extra Cash:
Guitar Hero 5 9/1
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days 9/29
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time 10/27
Dante's Inferno 12/1
Games I can rent:
Wolfenstein 8/18

Marvel ultimate Alliance 2 9/15
Afrika 9/22
Dead Space: Extraction 9/28
MotorStorm: arctic Edge 9/28

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories 10/13
