This question came to me when thinking about the origins of one becoming a geek. I started thinking to myself did I realize I was a geek when I was 5 and playing a genesis and obsessing over Star Wars and Jurassic Park? And I realize the answer is no. It's a special day when you figure out your a geek.

It's totally not a special day; I was BORN a geek. I've been wearing glasses since the day I learned to read and I've always had tissues in my pocket for my terrible allergies. Sometimes people don't turn into geeks, they just are geeks. XD;
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of hard for me to concider myself a geek. The word is kind of contrived, really, stemming from an originally disrespectful term. I kind of feel as I get older that a geek is really just somebody with a passion for something that somebody else thinks is stupid.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, everybody is a geek. Everybody has something that they're very passionite about, and for everything in the world, i'm sure there's at least one person who thinks each thing is stupid.
Of course, there is a generic term for geek, and I think it's a litt unrefined to use it to describe somebody... but if you had to use it that way, then yes... i'd say i'm a geek.
The thing is, I never really sat down one day and relized I was a geek, it kind of just grew over time, just like any good hobby or life goal. It started with video games and saturday morning cartoons. Then I got a computer, and got into anime... and everything just stemmed from there.
Well, i'm a geek in the respect that I want to know everything and own everything about certain things like video games, Deloreans, and I think I went geek 4 years ago when I got my car :D
