Sonic related surprise

It's very obvious I am interested in seeing if Sonic 4 episode 1 could be any good, but mostly the sonic games and media has been awful in the last 3 or so years. Today I received a Sonic related surprise that didn't suck-

You'd think the games would be better than the Ice Cream promotion, but sadly that is not the case because the ice cream was delicious.

Sonic 4 Game Footage

Found it here

It looks pretty good even though it might not be the final product :O

Look at the detail in the background, pretty nice. I also see you can choose what act to play from a specific level, and I think I saw as many as 4 acts in one level. That's quite a bit, and the music has some nods to the previous games.

Project Needlemouse playable characters

SEGA has decided to tease people on their blog about the upcoming Project Needlemouse. The list couldn't be any more depressing for me but there are 11characters, 5 will be knocked off.

I'm a little nervous about this game now because it's supposed to be homaging the original games, but HOW could they not include Tails as a playable character? I know some don't like him, but he's a little higher up than say Amy. Why is there new characters on the list for a game that is trying to be like the old games?

Chip, Froggy, Charmy, Vector and Big better be coming off that list.

Also, Mr. Needlemouse is a new character?! why, WHY!

Oh well, this is just a guessing game SEGA is playing with us and i'll have to see the actual game. Sonic Unleashed wasn't too bad when I tried it, but the werehog concept was pretty stupid. However, I will have to acquire a copy before I properly slam that game as bad. I've been riding the bandwagon on Sonic Unleashed but I really want to believe Sonic Team did some good things that will carry over into Needlemouse.

One can hope the Sonic Team can get it right this time, the only good thing I can say is that Sonic Team seems to avoid canon. Well, I actually hate that they don't stay true to SatAM the tv show. I am glad I don't see characters like Cream on there as a playable character, she's a pretty pointless character. This also means we won't see the damn werehog experiment again, and being 2D I can't see the characters being voiced. Good, because having the 4kids actors doing them is something I don't want in light of the awful job 4kids did on Sonic X.

Once a Sonic fan, always a Sonic fan. If SEGA is trying to reach fans like me, they better have made a good game.

Sega Announces New Sonic Game

I left an important fact out, it's 2D, and it's returning to its nostalgic roots.

Okay I have to say that trailer excited me a little, 2D is a step in the right direction. Sega has listened to fans, and perhaps this upcoming game could break the chain of disappointment.

Originally obtained by this 1UP article, the game is going to be HD and hopefully it will be a success to age old Sonic fans like me and Rob. Next stop, Sega console? :D Jaleel White voicing this Sonic?

Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM Review

Hey guys! So, this is a little something new that I'm doing here. I've decided that I'm going to review a TV series instead of a movie or a game, and I think I might start doing these TV reviews more often, since we don't have enough of it on the site. For my first review, I'm going to be taking a look Sonic the Hedgehog. I was recently hanging out with Ed, who you guys should know from the site, and I brought over the DVD box set for a little mini-marathon. We didn't have a chance to get through the whole thing, but watching it reminded me just how much I liked it, and I figured I'd write up a review.

Sonic the Hedgehog
is an animated series that premiered in 1993 on ABC. Dubbed SatAM by it's fans, it was the second Sonic cartoon to appear on TV. However, it premiered only 12 days after The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog did, so both shows were, for the most part, airing at the same time. Despite that, it's interesting to see how many similarities the two shows have. Both shows have chili dogs as Sonic's favorite food, both shows feature Jaleel White as the voice of Sonic, and even some of Sonic's catchphrases from the previous show are still in-tact. While the two shows were aired on separate networks, it's not surprising when you conciser both shows were produced by DIC, allowing the company to keep some sort of continuity between the two.

However, Sonic the Hedgehog is much different than the other show. Instead of crazy slapstick shenanigans, we get a well written storyline. Instead of a sloppily animated pile of pen and ink, we get detailed backgrounds, and smooth animation throughout. It's pretty obvious that this show is vastly superior to The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Let me talk about the story a bit more. The show has somewhat of a dark tone to it, which is a nice change of pace. Don't get me wrong, this was still aired Saturday mornings, and it still had to be tailored for kids, but some of the things they got away with are pretty surprising. Sonic is part of a group called the Freedom Fighters, who are trying to fight the evil Dr. Robotnik, who is turning creatures into robots through a process they call "Robotisizing". The whole show revolves around this, and while there isn't much of an overlying plot in the first season, the second season starts to tie things together from episode to episode. Unlike many animé series that do something similar, Sonic the Hedgehog does it in an ingenious way. Each episode stands on it's own, but if you watch them all, you get a bigger picture of the storyline, making it good for anybody who likes to follow a story, or just flip on an episode sometimes.

The characters are all very likable and memorable. Each one of the Freedom Fighters has their own personality, and it really shows through with the excellent voice acting provided by many of them. There's also a love interest that starts up between Sonic and Sally, which is pretty surprising territory for a Saturday morning cartoon. Even the villains are very memorable, and they're just as easy to hate as the freedom fighters are to like.

Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog is an excellent cartoon series, and I highly recommend it to anybody who is a fan of animation, Sonic, Saturday morning cartoons, or anybody just looking for a cartoon series (Oh and furries, I recommend it to you guys as well).

I give Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) a 5 out of 5.
