Left 4 Dead Survival Guide Trailer

I have to say I never really loved the one cutscene in the first Left 4 Dead. It was a okay and i watched it once or twice but thats it. Valve really looks like they are getting better and better at cutscenes though. So far while of the gameplay for the new game has been great I feel like the characters haven't grown on me like the first. This trailer however has a ton of personality and makes me much more excited to play these new characters. I'm personally torn between the Coach and Nick the conman.

God of War 1&2 PS3 Trailer

God of War 1 and 2 are coming to the ps3 in november on a single Blu-Ray and in High-Definition for the first time. I'm really looking forward to this mainly because I have never played the second game since by the time it came out I had already moved onto next-gen gaming. From what I've heard it's only going to be 40 bucks for the two games so it's a great deal especially if you haven't played these incredible games yet.

Ron Gilbert comes back with Deathspank!

I had heard the name Deathspank thrown around a bit before, but I had never really delved into any details about the game. So it's no surprise that I had no idea Ron Gilbert was working on this project until just a couple days ago when he and hothead Games talked about it at PAX 2009. Just the mention of his name has now got me interested in this project, and I've started watching tons of videos and interviews about it.

For anybody who doesn't know who Ron Gilbert is, he's the guy who created the Secret of Monkey Island, among a few of the sequels... as well as creating the SCUMM game engine which powered pretty much all of the old Lucasarts adventure games.

Deathspank will not be an adventure game, however it will have elements from that genre. It's being penned as Diablo meets Monkey Island, pretty much meaning it will be an Action RPG, but there will also be dialogue trees, puzzle solving, and item combination. The combat should be enough to keep you from being too bored when you get stuck on a puzzle, and it should keep the game lively.

The whole thing seems like a nice change of pace, and since Ron Gilbert is the genius behind the comedy in a lot of the old Lucasarts adventures, the comedy should be top notch. Actually, from what I've seen of the game so far, the comedy IS top notch.

The graphical style, while not technically superior, has such a nice charm to it. everything looks very cartoony and 2D, while not relying on cel-shading. The characters all have a very distinct style to them, and the backgrounds go into a nice horizon line, almost like you're traveling around on a tiny planet.

The game is looking pretty good so far, and I'm definitely excited that Ron Gilbert is finally doing some more stuff. No release date has been given yet, but be sure to look for more info on the game in the coming months. You can also check out the game's official website here.

Bonk: Brink of Extinction Announced

Hudson, the developer of the classic TurboGrafx-16 Bonk games have recently announced how they're releasing a new Bonk game with the subtitle "Brink of Extinction" for Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, and the Playstation Network. Since I never owned a TurboGrafx, the first Bonk game I played was Super Bonk on the SNES. It was a pretty awesome game, where you could transform into various different types of Bonk, and then also become large or small. You could go into the mouth of a Dinosaur, and mess up all of his internal organs. The game was pretty crazy.

Hudson had this to say about the new game:
About Bonk:
It is the start of a new age and Bonk has returned at the turn of the tide as the world faces extinction. Our loveable caveman is back and has brought his huge head with him. A doomsday comet, surrounded by smaller chunks of debris, is on a collision course with Earth. A strange magnetic field around the comet seems to be driving most of the planet’s weak-willed creatures crazy, and smaller bits of debris are smashing into the jungle near Bonk's home. Bonk must undertake a perilous journey that will take him to the very center of the planet to save the world.

The Return Of The Most Widely Requested Classic Platformer
Story Mode with Co-Op play. Play alone or have a friend join you any time.
An entire new adventure with Bonk as he swims, bites, climbs, jumps, runs, and head-butts his way through jungles, deserts and volcanic caverns
Search for help along the way: power ups, check points, and extra health are the staple for every adventuring caveman.
Transformations are back and weirder than ever! Now Bonk can transform himself into eight different forms by eating meat or encountering Primordial Ooze. No enemy is safe from the boy with the super noggin!
Multiple other modes and adventures are available as add on packs

New Features:
Online play for the first time in the series.
New enemies with wide variations in personality/abilities. Beware the Raptor Unicycle Tank!
Next generation gameplay meets retro brand: Classic 2D platforming in a 3D world.
Collectibles will have you searching the entire prehistoric world
Download Content to keep the experience going

They also released some screenshots, which you can see at the bottom of this post.

This looks pretty much like everything you'd want out of a new Bonk game. Crazy new enemies, more costume power ups for Bonk, the good ol' 2D side-scrolling headbutt action, and co-op play both online and offline. I think Hudson is definitely taking the game in a good direction, and it's nice to see this classic franchise revived. They haven't released an official date yet, but they've said the game will be coming out in early 2010. So, until then, just check out the images below, and visit Bonk at his Myspace page, where you can find him coercing all the fine ladies.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Expansion Pack

So look, a lot of us here at Geeksquisite really aren't into WoW all that much. Some of us were at some point but that ship has sailed far far away. Regardless I'm sure some of you still love your WoW so I might as well put something up about it. I'm not going to go over everything new since you either already know it, don't care, or will watch the trailer below in find out in about 4 minutes. So just a few things I thought were pretty cool, the new Worgen class for the alliance. They seem essentially like good werewolfs and they just look incredible. The horde have Goblins now which seems like it's something that should have existed a long time ago but whatever. The new look to the world itself seems pretty impressive I must say. The Cataclysm they speak of seems like some super volcano went off or something and has completely changed the landscape of the game. Every trailer Blizzard makes has me itching to play the game but then I turn it on and after about 2 days I get bored out of my mind with no intention of returning. I think I'll wait until Star Wars: The Old Republic myself but if your a WoW player this looks pretty fucking exciting.

Debut Trailer:

Fly over of the new enviroments

This footage was cam filmed so the sound is pretty awful and the video is a bit grainy. But it shows the starting area and gameplay footage of the Worgen so if your interested it is worth the look. I really like the transformation.

Also some pretty bad quality Goblin gameplay. The audio is much more tolerable in this one though.

20 minutes of Star Wars: The Old Republic in motion

The new footage shows off the Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, and Sith Warrior classes. Also the new VO dialogue that plays out a lot like a evolution of the Mass Effect dialogue system. Bioware certainly seems to be taking everything they know and throwing it into one basket (which is a good thing). The combat from what we've seen so far looks great to me. I'm so tired of fantasy MMO's so I'm very interested to see where this game goes. THe only thing holding me back would be the subscription fee but this game might just get me to make that leap. Let us know your thoughts on the footage below.

GC 09: Alan Wake Commentary Trailer

For those of you who were confused by the E3 demo of Alan Wake, you are not alone. I sat there wondering "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON." I understood some things like how the light effected the ghosts but thats about it. This new trailer with commentary by Sam Lake gives us a much better understanding of what is going on in the world of Alan Wake. How the story will unfold, and how the gameplay is implemented. It also introduces a few supporting characters that I'm pretty sure we haven't seen from before. After the E3 demo I wasn't really all that interested in the game and thought that it was a far cry from what I thought it would be. I think this new trailer gives me some hope back though. Check it out!

GC 09: Fable 3 Debut Trailer

It isn't much but it is the debut trailer of one of my favorite games of last year. As explained in the trailer Albion has no king, so guess you gets to rule, you. As is usual with the Fable series the game relies on your choices to be good or evil. While they worked in 2, at a certain point it just became a game of balancing different meters.

Not a ton to talk about from this trailer except to say I'm excited to be seeing anything from a sequel so soon. I also wouldn't be surprised if the game implements Project Natal in some way. Peter Molyneux has been so out spoken about Natal that it would be really surprising to me for it not to be involved in some way. Expecially when Peter was already working with the Natal Dev kit just a few months after Fable 2's release. So Fable 3 should be early enough in it's production for them to work with Natal. So I am really curious to see where they take the series.

GC 09: PS3 Slim Announced!

Today at Games Convention 2009 in Germany. Sony Announced the PS3 and that it will be available the first week of September this year.

Interesting Facts:

120 gb harddrive
32% smaller
36% lighter
34% less power consumption
Price: 299.99

Aside from the fact that I think it looks pretty ugly. It seems to be a really good deal if you haven't gotten a PS3 yet. This could be the fall they turn it around, we'll have to wait and see.

StarCraft 2 Single-Player Revealed

Look I barely played the original so I have no clue how to explain what is going on. All I can tell is that you are the Terrain killing the Zerg. The Terrain are going to be who you play for the whole FIRST solo campaign. The ZERG and PROTOSS will be released in the games that come after. So let me just say HOLY SHIT does this game look amazing. I don't know if my computer can quite handle this but we'll see.

What Are You Getting This Fall?

(List and Dates Subject to Change)

First thing I know this list starts August 24th but thats Fall enough for me. The list i've made is a giant list of all the big titles coming this fall. Now I am missing a lot of PSP/DS/WII games mainly because I don't follow them as much. So this is mainly a 360/PS3 list. This isn't meant to be a list of every single game coming this fall it's just to show what I am interested in or know something about. Now let me explain a bit further what I mean by the titles of the sections these games come under.

GAMES I NEED: These are the titles that I will scratch and claw in order to play. These are the movies that I will be waiting in line at midnight in order to play through the night they come out. Also I highly doubt Scribblenauts will have a midnight premiere which is a shame.

GAMES I WANT: These are the ones I'd really like to play if I can and even buy if I have the money. I wouldn't be angry if I couldn't play these this fall but I would like too.

GAMES If I HAVE THE EXTRA CASH: pretty self explanatory but these are games I'm interested in but will most likely end up in the rental column if I don't have the money to get this far down the list.

RENTAL: This is a big list of the games I have at last some intrigue about. Lots of reasons to be in this list from I think it could be really good or maybe it would be really bad. Also games I think I might actually love BUT don't see much replay ability in.

NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN: The games I just can't gather myself together to care about. Maybe it's a genre I don't like or maybe I just don't think it looks well polished. Either way the chances of me spending 60 bucks on any of these is slim to non.

Games I NEED:

The Beatles: Rock Band 9/9
Scribblenauts 9/15
Brutal Legend 10/13
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 11/10
Left 4 Dead 2 11/17

Games I Want:

Professor Layton & The Diabolical Box 8/24
Halo 3: ODST 9/22
Assassin's Creed 2 11/17
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves 10/13
Dragon Age Origins 10/20
Borderlands 10/20

Games if I have Extra Cash:

Guitar Hero 5 9/1
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days 9/29
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time 10/27
Dante's Inferno 12/1

Games I can rent:

Wolfenstein 8/18
Batman: Arkham asylum 8/25
Marvel ultimate Alliance 2 9/15
Afrika 9/22
Dead Space: Extraction 9/28
MotorStorm: arctic Edge 9/28
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising 10/6
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories 10/13
Forza 3 10/27
Blur 11/3
Band Hero 11/3
Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles 11/17

Not Really Interested in:

Need For Speed: Shift 9/15
WET 9/15
Alpha Protocol 10/6
SAW 10/6
Tekken 6 10/27
DJ Hero 10/27
Rock Band: LEGO 11/2
Rabids Go Home 11/3
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010 11/10
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game 11/24
The Saboteur 12/8
Guitar hero: Van Halen 12/22

Be sure to let me know what you think of the list and what yours might look like for the 2010 fall.

Multiplayer in Brütal Legend: More Than Just an Afterthought?

Double Fine Productions has recently shown off the kind of multiplayer we're going to be seeing in their upcoming metal masterpiece, Brütal Legend. The crazy part is, it seems more than just some tacked-on deathmatch and CTF, in fact, it looks like nothing I've seen before!

The online game is played from the same third person perspective as the single player. You can play as a few different factions and depending on which one you choose, that will also determine your character, and which type of creatures you can summon.

Of course you can attack directly, as well... going up and swinging your weapon at the enemy is just one of the strategies you can use against your foe. However, the summoning is probobly the biggest part of the whole thing. You can summon a bunch of different units, and each type has a different play style to them. Of course, you can't simply summon them at any time you like. First you need to gain more fans, which acts as the game's resource. Some units are slow-paced but do a lot of damage, some de-buff your enemy's units, and some are powerhouses. There's all sorts of variety here, and it makes for a very tactical experience... surprisingly tactical, in fact.

The Unit names in Brütal Legend are also one on it's strong points, let me list a few of them for you here. Thunderhog, battle nun, warfather, screamwagon, ratgut, frightwig, and saving the best for last the HATE CAGE. Yes, that's right, the hate cage. Not only are the names great, but all of the units have an excellent design to them as well, complementing the visuals and keeping with the style of METAL!

The online mode looks surprisingly like an RTS, but it seems like it won't require the micromanagement you find in most RTS games. Is this the way a console RTS should be done? Nobody can really tell at this point, but it looks like the good folks at Double Fine have put a lot of hard work into this mode, and at least for me, it's pretty surprising. Tim Schafer has recently said, however, that the game was originally planned to be multiplayer-only, so I suppose since they were working on this the longest, it's not any surprise that it'd come out looking so good.

Brütal Legend is penned to be released Rocktober(yaknow, October) 13th, later this year, so look forward to fighting the epic war of heavy metal against your foes and slaying their demons over your puny internet connection! Ahahhahahaaaa!

The Behemoth Shows Off Their New Game

The Behemoth, creators of Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid, have recently uploaded this development blog video you see at the top of this post to Youtube for their currently untitled new game. It seems for now, the working title is Game #3, which makes sense since it's the company's third game.

In the video, they show off the character and mode select screens as well as one game mode, currently titled Soul Mode... although they mention this won't be the name of the mode in the final game. It plays somewhat like a backwards version of tag, but it's a little more than that.

Each player has one soul, and if you jump on top of a player, their soul pops out of them. This gives you a chance to collect their soul and hang onto it for as long as possible, running away from everybody. The more souls you have, the faster you accumulate points, however, you'll run slower so you'll have to be pretty skilled to stay away from your attackers.

The mode looks pretty interesting and it has an original spin on something that's pretty much been done already. They showed off a team-based version of this mode in the video, although I imagine a free-for-all mode would be pretty easy to do as well.

Of course the art style is great, I love myself some 2D goodness, as many of you may already know, and the game seems to top even Castle Crashers' graphics! One of the cool stylistic things they mentioned is that you can change the shape of your character's head, which sounds small and insignificant, and well... it is, but it adds a bit of variety to the graphics, and is pretty cool, I think.

They mention that this is only one of the many modes in the game, and that they'll be showing off more at PAX in Seattle, and then more later on at TGS. It's nice for developers to tell us when they'll be showing more stuff. I'm already pretty excited about Game #3, and I'll be looking forward to seeing more of it in the months to come.

GRIN Studios Closes Down

GRIN studios has officially closed it's doors today, and it's not a huge surprise after the sales figures for their recent games such as Bionic Commando, Termintor: Salvation, and Wanted: Weapons of Fate.

The official message was posted here, on their website, this is what they had to say:

It is with a heavy heart we announce today that GRIN has been forced to close its doors. This as too many publishers have been delaying their payments, causing an unbearable cashflow situation.

After twelve years of hard work, employing hundreds of wonderfully talented men and women, it is over. It has been a great adventure and the GRIN family has experienced what few have.

Looking back at twelve years of games, titles such as Ballistics, Bandits, GRAW 1 & 2, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, Terminator: Salvation, Bionic Commando and our unreleased masterpiece that we weren’t allowed to finish; it has been a great ride.

GRIN studios may have not had the best track record for games as of late, but I remember playing some great games made by them in the past, such as GRAW, and Bionic Commando: Rearmed... and it will definitely be sad to see them go. Good luck to all of the former employees, here's hoping you find work at another, more well-funded game company.

Bioshock at the Beach

Hey guys I just wanted to post this to let everyone know that early this morning in about 7 hours or so me and a few other authors are gonna be heading to Jones Beach. In order to see what this whole Bioshock 2 viral marketing thing is all about. We aren't sure what we will be seeing but we're going in prepared bringing a video camera and a few still cameras. From what I've been hearing around the web it seems like a good amount of gamers are gonna be going so it should be a cool outing.

I'm praying we get to play a demo but I kinda doubt that. Some free shwag could be cool? I've been hearing some rumors that since there are 10 locations all around the world that we will probably just be getting a piece of the puzzle to something and that all 10 together will give us something. Either way it should be fun and probably going to meet some of the guys from Kotaku and other New york based gaming sites.

A few things to expect on the site in the following days would be a video of our trip if I can get that to happen. Don't hold me to the video though. We will definitely have photos on the site and a wrap up of the event and what went down. Other then that I'm not sure because we don't know what will happen just yet. Anyway keep checking on the site this weekend because there should be some cool stuff for you.

Location Info:

Where: Jones Beach
When: 5:58 Am August 8th

If anyone is going wants to meet us or anything just look for TJ who you can recognize from the youtube videos. A bunch of us are Here too. So look out for us or just yell out Geeksquisite on the top your lungs whatever suits you.

The Final Hours of the Matrix online

*UPDATE MATRIX IS NOW OFFLINE FOREVER. RIP*

Hey guys go to this link and watch the Giantbomb guys play through the final hours of the Matrix Online MMO.

Launch March 22nd 2005. Supposed to end July 31st 2009 but it's August 1st here and it looks like it may just have a little bit left in it.

The Matrix Online (also known as MxO) was a massively multiplayer online game developed by Monolith Productions. It was the official continuation of the The Matrix storyline. The game began closed beta-testing in June 2004 which was then opened for people who pre-ordered the game in November 2004. Warner Bros. and Sega officially released MxO on 22 March 2005 in the United States. It was released in Europe on April 15, 2005. Sony Online Entertainment ended the services for The Matrix Online at 11:59 PST on the 31st of July 2009. IMDB

New F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Single-Player DLC Pack Announced

Earlier today, Warner Bros. announced that F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will be getting a new DLC Pack. The pack, entitled "Reborn," will come with 4 new Single Player missions. The story will take place concurrently with the main story, and will put the player in control of replica soldier Foxtrot 813, showing the story from a new point of view, through the eyes of a different character... much like The Lost & Damned DLC for GTAIV.

There will also be some new Multiplayer stuff that will be applied on the same day as the single player stuff through a free title update. It sounds like this will be for everybody, weather you've bought the new pack or not. The Multiplayer update doesn't add any new maps, just a slow-mo power-up that seems like it will be used primarily in objective based games.

This all seems really cool, Pricing hasn't been announced yet for the single-player add-on, but it's nice to see more developers doing single-player add-ons, since that's where I usually like to enjoy my games. You can find the original interview wth IGN here, and you can find the official trailer here. Be sure to look out for this update when it's released on Xbox LIVE, PC, and PSN September 3rd.

Sam Raimi to Direct Warcraft Movie

Blizzard announced yesterday that a Warcraft movie will be coming in the future, and Sam Raimi is on board to direct. This seems both crazy and exciting at the same time, Raimi is obviously well established and I think he could do a really good job on a Warcraft movie. Warcraft can be dark, but can also be fun, and we've seen both of those sides from Raimi already. Here's what Raimi had to say on the project:

"At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," said Raimi. "I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen."

Raimi is not the only big name on the project either, Charles Roven will be brining in his Atlus Entertainment producing company, who produced The Dark Knight. They will be working alongside Raimi's Stars Road Entertainment in order to make sure the movie is well promoted. With the huge success of The Dark Knight, I'm guessing Atlus Entertainment can definitely help a lot in promoting this movie. I have high hopes that the movie will be as good as it can be, and here's hoping it is.

You can read the full announcement at blizzard's website here.

Brutal Legend Commentary Part 2

WARNING EARLY STORY STUFF IS MENTIONED. *SPOILERS*

So if your alright with seeing about 40 total minutes of the early gameplay then watch the following. I just watched the whole thing and it is SO EPIC. I can't wait until this game comes out in Rocktober. The following video shows the open world of Brutal Legend for the very first time. At E3 2009 we saw the early linear section but that was so 1 month ago. Here we get to see how the world around Eddie Riggs will look and function. We learn how to control our Heavy Metal army. There is also a celebrity introduction for the ages that is shown. Rock On!

Brutal Legend Commentary Part 1
