The budget of Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2 has made over 600 million dollars, with the game being so popular people tend to believe it was costly. THAT is what the game market wants you think, that good games take alot of money. Modern Warfare 2 is a defining example of this tactic.

VG Arabia has brought to my attention news from the LA Times that Modern Warfare cost 200 million to launch.

You may be wondering how much of the 600 million plus dollars that takes away, but before you do. Consider that only 40-50 million dollars was actually put into the development of the game.

Activision is definitely money hungry as any other company, and Bobby Kotick certainly does not help that. BUT WHO THE HELL SPENDS THREE TIMES THE COST OF THE GAME'S BUDGET FOR DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING?

We knew this game was coming, we were excited for this game. But with Activision, Ubisoft, and many other publishers in the industry speaking on behalf of the developers. They say the $60 retail standard for games isn't enough per game to offset costs for most games and make the gamble some developers make worth the risk.

I have heard many statements from Activision and Infinity Ward regarding development of this game, but the standard for game retail has slowly increased over the years. I for one do not want to see ridiculous things like the supposed $100 retail for Final Fantasy XIII, it will only be a matter of time before gaming falls because publishers more than developers do this to gamers.

It's alot to ask the gaming development and publishers to change the way they do things, even if its common sense. But for god's sake, NEVER spend more on marketing than the game. This happens with so many games, and when games disappoint we lose as developers scramble to bleed us more for every game. All because of hyping games that don't need hype in some cases, it's completey fine to market. But when you spend more than the game cost to make, that's pathetic.

New Modern Warfare 2 gametypes

Blend games gave us the heads up on additions to one of the best selling games of the year. They are as follows in case you want an idea of what you're playing:

1. 3rd Person Team Tactical - "Third person perspective with Team Deathmatch,Domination, Capture the Flag, and Demolition" (6-8 players)

2. Team Deathmatch Express - "Team Deathmatch with shorter time between matches." (8-12 players)

3. Mosh Pit - "Mixed bag of many game modes in one playlist" (8-12 players

Hmmm, lets see. The first one has that third person perspective some gamers craved and awaited following rumors of its existence.
The second one makes camping on the map a losing strategy if you're losing, and also makes it ideal since people will be chasing each other around the map. I bet that gametype will be frustrating when teams are neck and neck.
The last one solves the oh-so-prevalent arguments of what gametype to play, and instead leaves the decision to a crapshoot courtesy of Infinity Ward.

Thank you Infinity :D

Bobby Kotick don't need no consoles

Even the Simpsons don't like Kotick

GREED GREED GREED

Bobby Kotick is a greedy self absorbed CEO (of Activision), yeah I get that. This isn't simply someone wanting more profit, it's simply him wanting Activision to sever ties with the companies that make him money.

Activision has games that go as far back as Atari, Activision profited from the popularity of the console market. Now Kotick is so proud of himself that maybe one day, he won't need to put Activision's games and other stuff on any console. I guess this means he would like to exclusively put Activision games on computers and plug and play plastic devices. It's definitely a possibility.

Maybe Kotick doesn't realize that since hardware is working with it's developers to make better games, it'd be damn foolish to break the trend and start trying to sell the games on their own. Gamers hear rumor of EA making its own console, but developers really don't have the power to make a good console let alone support it with many exclusives. Companies tried that years ago, and look how few consoles we have to choose from compared with years ago.

Kotick, if you can't just shut your mouth, then I hope you engage in your scheme and fail. Which you will.

Brutal Legend Demo Release Date

We just couldn't wait," Double Fine president Tim Schafer said in a press release

Brutal Legend is turning out to look very good, and hopefully Activision will fail to delay it. But on September 17th we will get to pass judgement on the game and whether it guarantees a buy from some of us. The amount of excitement and hype over the game itself and the fight to delay it by Activision has made this the game of October to check out the demo for.

Get ready for chaos xD that feels oh so right.

Brutal Legend might be Delayed?!

Not for the same reason as other games

Okay, if you don't get why they are suing the developer even though they gave up on the game, I will make it very simple. Think Fox and the Watchmen case, Activision is exploiting loopholes for its gold digging pleasure. Now recently we got news that the judge threw out their case

Take that Activision

Of course they will appeal this, but unlike the Watchmen/Fox case there was no victory in the preliminary case and lets hope there isn't. There are way too many games being delayed, and I know people are excited for the game. I recently became interested in the game, very interested, and now Activision is trying to cash in. No offense to Activision but....

*insert cursing rant here*

What is odd about the game being delayed is that its mostly because they want to make money on it but I guess delaying it will make EA want to settle and give Activision a piece of the profits. Well, I hope Activision wastes their money on the lawyers that lose this case.

Activision pressures Sony

Price cut or we cut

Sony's got a huge hurtle to jump if it wants to go above Microsoft, I thought they managed to do so with all the beautiful exclusive games like Uncharted 2, God of War III, MAG etc. but it seems thats going to be softened with Activision's threat to cut loose on Sony.

The consensus is that the PS3 is harder to develop for, but the system itself is respected for the richer gaming experience. The exclusives for the PS3 unveiled at E3 show us the potential STILL not topped in the PS3.

The problem is, Microsoft ate away at exclusives on the PS3. This year they managed to get in line for the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and losing Activision's support entirely would be a big blow. It would take quite a few games out of the yearly release for PS3 and ESSENTIALLY become exclusives for the Xbox 360. Sure it's made for Nintendo as well, but Nintendo has 1999 graphics, not exactly utilized as the 360 does.

It's a hard future for Sony, but in the position they face. I tip my hat off to them for trying hard, and I sometimes want a PS3 of my own. But as I said, i'm waiting for a price drop, so I can have a game with my PS3.

Hang in there Sony
