3D TV's overhyped?

Article

This kind of 3D doesn't need a special TV; rather, you just need a set of stereoscopic glasses, the likes of which you've probably already used once or twice at the movies in recent years. Or even at a games show, to play some WipeOut.

Now let me get this straight, 3D is a gimmick, an optional media going experience at the movies or at home. Now Sony is promoting 3D TVs, which are obviously going to be $2000 TVs at the base price. 3D hurts my eyes as it does others, so nobody is going to want to watch 3D on a TV ALL THE TIME. And I suppose the 3D TVs will have the option to turn off the 3rd dimension, but seriously, WHY do you need to buy a 3D tv? if movies come with 3D glasses, and using a 3D TV requires glasses, whats the premium features of owning a 3D TV. Tell me and maybe it will justify others buying these 3D TVs, but it makes no sense to me because if movies can come in 3D with glasses, and it takes a firmware update to make all the PS3 games work. What do you need the TV for????

TV Review: Six Feet Under (Season 1)

I've been watching the first season of a whole bunch of series while on summer break. I heard about Six Feet Under years ago and how it kept winning Emmy's and Golden Globes. I never watched because I never really understood what is what. I'm actually happy about that though because I don't think I would have liked this show had I seen it 5 years ago.

"Nathaniel Fisher, his wife Ruth, and their children David and Claire run a small funeral business that offers the best care to be found anywhere close by. Prodigal son Nate Jr. arrives home for Christmas just as his father is killed by a bus, and has to stick around when he and David are willed the funeral service together. How does a family who helps others deal with grief deal with its own? Written by rmlohner" (thank you IMDB)

If you never got the chance to catch this series on tv don't let that stop you. This is one of the greatest series i've ever seen. It's the perfect balance of character and story and it really comes together nicely. At first some characters feel boring and not fun to watch but as their story arcs unfold pretty much all the characters are fun to watch. Michael C. Hall is the best example of someone who I hated for the first 3 or 4 episodes of the series but by the end he became my favorite character on screen.

All the characters are struggling with where their life should go and how to get along with each other. I like that there isn't a true main relationship, they establish Nate as the main character but all the other members of the family get episodes of their own that are most of my favorite ones. This is one of the earlier shows to bring a cinematic quality to the camerawork and it really shows not only in cinematography but editing as well. There are sequence with dead people acting as the conscience that are just brilliant to look at.

I'm unsure of where the series will go from here but I'm really looking forward to it. It was a fantastic start to a show with some excellent performances. I have to take special note that I don't think i've ever seen a better or more respectful portrayal of a gay character on television. This show doesn't judge it's characters but just acknowledges we are all just people trying to make it by day by day.

TV Series: Monk

In 2002, this series about an Obsessive Compulsive Detective aired in the middle of him coping over his wife's death and the retirement from the police force. Andy Breckman, creator of the show, was going for a Sherlock Holmes and Watson team duo with Adrian Monk and his assistant.

There are some good solid episodes in this show, the overall morals involve Adrian Monk getting reinstated on the police force and finding those involved with the killing of his wife. The show also focuses on Adrian Monks day to day tendencies with his OCD, giving social commentary on the mainstreaming of those who have trouble adapting.

There are some sour lemons in the list of episodes that I do not want to see again, most notably Mr. Monk and the Rapper where Snoop Dogg made an appearance. Worst episode of the series, some of the episodes fall short on the humor, and sometimes the show gets too serious. The show is supposed to be grounded in a lighthearted, dramatic flow.

Some episodes I recommend include Mr. Monk and the Firehouse, and Mr. Monk and the Leper. But you can watch varying episodes here.

This is a good series which is on it's last season, so while people like me see the end of a great show. Some of you are going to enjoy the vast amount of material you have yet to see. Check out this show.

The final season starts August 7th.

Futurama is back!

LINK

You just can't stop Futurama. A day after news broke that the show looked to be coming back, Comedy Central has made it official, announcing they have picked up the series for an impressive 26 new episodes – thirteen more than originally expected.

This is great for me, I liked Futurama. Coming from the same minds and animation studios that brought us the Simpsons, this will be a great victory for fans like myself. In recent years the Simpsons have become stale to me, and Futurama appears to be a great successor to the Simpsons crowd.

26 episodes is ALOT, and the four direct to DVD movies didn't really count. Granted be, I had not seen them since I thought it would be the end of Futurama and I could pick them up whenever I wanted. But now that we have Futurama coming back, I have to start watching it every time its on. It's also funny that IGN touched on how Futurama is becoming a mirror image Family Guy story of being resurrected by fans. I agree, but unlike Family Guy which I don't like and still don't understand why it seems to be liked so much, Futurama will be a blast.

Ever since the movie continuation of Firefly with Serenity, fans seems to have more power to get what they want. I'm kinda tired of people thinking Family Guy was the first fan outcry to bring back the show, because Firefly's movie adaption is a bigger victory for fans :P (and it happened before Family Guy)

Funny that IGN says Fox might air the episodes before Comedy Central, I'm getting tired of Fox's dumb moves and backstabbing. Drive, Firefly, Watchmen, Futurama, Family Guy, geez they really mess things up.

Can't wait for Futurama :D
