Dragonball Kai to premiere this Tuesday

In the 1990's I got my first look at anime on Toonami, being blown away by the new style of animation I was looking at. The 90's were the absolute golden age for animated shows, so showing them up today might be easy but it wasn't always. One of those shows was Dragon Ball Z.

The Frieza saga was where I started, and I had a blast. The story, the enemies, all of it appealed to me and made me interested in anime. A dang shame Cartoon Network gave up on Toonami back then.

Anyway.

Dragon Ball Z was a good show, I loved it. Today i'm blowing up into a major Otaku, and man did they drag out the Super Saiyan transformations when comparing to the Japanese. So call me surprised when I learned of Dragonball Kai, I thought it was a fill in show within Dragon Ball Z. Yet it turns out, when everyone had their shot at dubbing Dragonball Z the animation files were thrown out.

Why this happened, I don't know. However they redrew all the animation for the show, and made a "refreshed series" that premiered in 2009. Now Funimation has redubbed the refreshed series, clocked in at 100 episodes with some fixes. The biggest being that the power ups aren't dragged out this time around, or so i've heard.

So this Tuesday May 25th Kai will premiere on...

Nicktoons Network

Odd place for it to premiere, what happened with Cartoon Network?

Regardless, I will provide a review for Kai episodes and hopefully FUNimation has learned from the "freedoms" it took with the original show.

Nickelodeon acquires TMNT

While looking for news, I came across an article concerning two things I never thought would go together. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Nickelodeon.

I kid you not, Nickelodeon plans to make a CG animated series of TMNT, and have even provided a premiere year of 2012. I loved Nickelodeon as a kid, but the lineup they have today is quite pathetic compared with the 90's. Sure there are some bright spots like Avatar: the Last Airbender, but most shows have dumbed down and former fans like me see how lost Nickelodeon is. Want a perfect example of why I think this way? watch any of the live action shows and you'll probably be as frustrated as I am how bad they are and how many there are.

Although, acquiring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that is just something I would never expect. Is it a bad thing? not necessarily, because it can't be worse than how 4KIDS handled it. They ruin pretty much EVERYTHING they touch, so in a way it is an improvement. Can Nickelodeon, a chunk of my life when I was growing up, make TMNT as good as it should be like the last movie. The 2007 film surprised me, and I liked it. Let's hope Nickelodeon doesn't mess this up, they talk about the comedy aspect when explaining their buying of the franchise rights. That's okay because the movie had its shares of laughs too, but let's hope they don't milk the franchise and bring a good show to their network. I say this because today they don't really put effort to make shows as good as they used to, or at least allow some creativity, lets hope that changes.

3D TV's overhyped?

Article

This kind of 3D doesn't need a special TV; rather, you just need a set of stereoscopic glasses, the likes of which you've probably already used once or twice at the movies in recent years. Or even at a games show, to play some WipeOut.

Now let me get this straight, 3D is a gimmick, an optional media going experience at the movies or at home. Now Sony is promoting 3D TVs, which are obviously going to be $2000 TVs at the base price. 3D hurts my eyes as it does others, so nobody is going to want to watch 3D on a TV ALL THE TIME. And I suppose the 3D TVs will have the option to turn off the 3rd dimension, but seriously, WHY do you need to buy a 3D tv? if movies come with 3D glasses, and using a 3D TV requires glasses, whats the premium features of owning a 3D TV. Tell me and maybe it will justify others buying these 3D TVs, but it makes no sense to me because if movies can come in 3D with glasses, and it takes a firmware update to make all the PS3 games work. What do you need the TV for????

Futurama is back!

LINK

You just can't stop Futurama. A day after news broke that the show looked to be coming back, Comedy Central has made it official, announcing they have picked up the series for an impressive 26 new episodes – thirteen more than originally expected.

This is great for me, I liked Futurama. Coming from the same minds and animation studios that brought us the Simpsons, this will be a great victory for fans like myself. In recent years the Simpsons have become stale to me, and Futurama appears to be a great successor to the Simpsons crowd.

26 episodes is ALOT, and the four direct to DVD movies didn't really count. Granted be, I had not seen them since I thought it would be the end of Futurama and I could pick them up whenever I wanted. But now that we have Futurama coming back, I have to start watching it every time its on. It's also funny that IGN touched on how Futurama is becoming a mirror image Family Guy story of being resurrected by fans. I agree, but unlike Family Guy which I don't like and still don't understand why it seems to be liked so much, Futurama will be a blast.

Ever since the movie continuation of Firefly with Serenity, fans seems to have more power to get what they want. I'm kinda tired of people thinking Family Guy was the first fan outcry to bring back the show, because Firefly's movie adaption is a bigger victory for fans :P (and it happened before Family Guy)

Funny that IGN says Fox might air the episodes before Comedy Central, I'm getting tired of Fox's dumb moves and backstabbing. Drive, Firefly, Watchmen, Futurama, Family Guy, geez they really mess things up.

Can't wait for Futurama :D
