Question of the Day? News

Alright so the Question of the day is going to be undergoing a bit of modification. It will now be further known as "THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK". The reason for this is rather simple.

Thinking of a question everyday is FUCKING HARD! Don't do it. So we will be scaling it back to a 1 question a week, and hopefully that will give you guys more time to leave a comment before the question is passed over.

Also remember if you don't see the post just click on the Question of the Week link on the side of the site to see the most up to date question.

500 Posts Strong and many more to come

Hey guys, I just wanted to thank all our readers and listeners who make this site worth continuing. To all the authors who have helped with posts and videos over the months thank you for bringing your own touch to Geeksquisite. I've had a hell of a lot of fun writing, recording the podcast (When there is time), and making videos for your viewing pleasure.

I thought I might just mention a few of my favorite moments since starting up this site back in May.

1. Our third week: The first two weeks just didn't quite do as good as we hoped and the site just wasn't getting a descent amount of traffic. We didn't even have a ton of direction just ideas with no sure way of how to execute them. The third week came and all of a sudden we started putting out about 5 or so original post a day and reviews started to come out left and right and our traffic began to rise. This is the point where we pretty much reached the next level and out paced the traffic that Midnight Multiplayer (our former site) achieved in a year.

2. E3 2009: I'm just so happy and proud of all the coverage we did. We had over 40 articles between 3 of us myself, Rob, and Ed at the time and recored 3 podcasts on the event. It was a great milestone for us and one that we are still trying to match.

3. The Podcast: I know we've been light on shows lately. Sorry about that but it has a lot to do with everyone having school and different schedules. But ever since changing the title and stepping up our game we've enjoyed the company of over 8 different guest and a bunch of new podcasters. It is always a lot of fun to release a new show and see what people think of it. As we approach our 50th episode, yet another milestone I look forward to us upping our game.

4. Bioshock Event: This event was an incredible day which we shared with you all in the Bioshock videos. The event itself might have been a bit lackluster but the journey there and back was quite memorable and for me and the other authors a hell of a fun morning.

5. The Future: The unknown is always the most exciting and most scary. I don't know where we'll be in a year all I can hope and strive for is for improvement and for us to keep learning and releasing higher quality content as the months and hopefully years come.

Thank you everyone whose been a part of this from the start and too those who have just found us. We love you all and thank you for the good times.

Happy Birthday to the one and only Steph

Today we celebrate the the 21st year of Steph's spectacular life on Earth. Of course celebrating in style was the only way to go. So we spent a great night eating at this terrific Hibachi and playing possibly one of the most epic games of Apples to Apples ever conceived.

Happy Birthday Steph, you are TEH AWESOME.

Viral Marketing on Long Island

What were you doing at 5:58 this morning? We (TJ, Aaron, Randy, and I) were sitting at Jones Beach on Long Island waiting for the Bioshock 2 publicity stunt. Our trip began around 4:30 in the morning as we all convened at TJ’s house. As you will see on video later, the trip started with a moonlit half hour drive to the beach where we all discussed many things including Monster Hunter 3 on the PSP (oddly).

Our anticipation later resulted in a discussion of what was going to occur. We developed many theories, some insane: massive kidnapping, some logical: Big Daddy sighting, and some funny: biggest rick roll ever to occur. We were one of the first groups of people to arrive at the beach as we noticed when we were one of maybe five cars, and the only group on the beach was a bunch of beachgoers in bathing suits. After arriving at the event, in true geek fashion, we busted out the GPS and followed it to as close as we can to the point we were given (we couldn’t get to the point because it was in the ocean).

The event really didn’t show itself too well. While we were there, there weren’t too many people in just one place. Only after TJ and I decided to look around did we actually find where the event was taking place. As we walked west, we noticed a small group of people and a large amount of wine bottles buried in the sand. This was what we were told, through rumor, what happened in Australia.

The stunt turned into a 75-100 person meet and greet. There, gamers were talking face to face on what they thought about the next game, the event, and as you probably assumed other games. There was actually no real confirmation of anyone from 2K actually being there. Had we not tried to take more than one bottle a person, I do not know if we would have even been able to determine who was running the show.

They gave out wine? Of course not. The bottles that were in the sand were merely plastic, and contained three posters paying homage to a message in a bottle. On the bottles themselves, the label tried to use as much of a Bioshock influence as possible, containing terms like Arcadia, Worley Winery, and 1958.

We left at the perfect time, just as we were walking up the beach towards the cars; we noticed park police riding up to the group. Apparently, they weren’t informed by anybody that a large group of people would be there, because they were broken up for “drinking.” This shows the event was an attempt at true viral marketing.

Shortly after, we left and stopped by a local diner with Geeksquisite author Stephanie. There, we reflected on the trip noting how much we liked the bottles. The group that showed up was, in my opinion, massive for being held at this hour. Maybe I was being naïve, but I was expecting a little more. Despite, I was not disappointed because it is hard not to have fun when you are not alone…being in photos on other websites doesn’t hurt either

There are just a few more photos to come possibly but most of the ones involving our trip are up. Below are just a few of my favorites. Enjoy

Red Steel 2 and Dark Void Pushed to 2010

HOLY CRAP is this list getting long. For anyone who hasn't been following here is a list of the 2009 games that have been delayed to 2010 SO FAR.

Delayed games:

1. Heavy Rain
2. Bioshock 2
3. MAG
4. Bayonetta
5. Splinter Cell: Conviction
6. Red Steel
7. Dark Void

There were about 20 or so games that I REALLY wanted this fall. The list above accounts for 7 games off of the list. There have been delays before (i.e. GTA IV) but I've never seen anything like this. I don't really have a problem with it I just think these companies should start following the Blizzard policy. Don't tell us dates and then don't hit them, wait until you know you can hit it. I know some games would be delayed still but we are at 7 so far and I have a strong feeling a few haven't been delayed just yet.

Now for Red Steel 2 and Dark Void

Ubisoft delayed Red Steel 2 because well I don't really know. here is their direct quote:

"We are disappointed that we have to postpone the release of several major games but we consider that this choice is the best one in the long-term interests of Ubisoft. Lastly, we are having to adjust our full-year targets to take into account the fall in business over the first half. The excellent response to our games at E3, as well as the high buzz generated for titles such as Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Avatar, reinforce our belief that the company can achieve strong growth in the second half of the fiscal year."

Their delay doesn't really give a direct reason but as you can see they are rearranging a lot of their products.

Capcom delayed Dark Void for pretty good reasons. The main of which is to get the new IP out of the crowded fall lineup. Much like Heavy Rain the fall just isn't a good time for new IPs.

"Dark Void is moving into Capcom's fiscal Q4 in order to get the game out of the crowded fall game season and to allow the development team more time to polish and enhance the game experience."

Good to know with the extra time will come a few more months of polish. The game has been on my radar since E3 2008. So I've waited a long time for this one so I hope they use the extra time well.

Toy Story and Toy Story 2 3D For The Price of 1 Ticket

For those you don't know, starting October 2nd both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will be in the theaters for a limited 2 week engagement. This news has been around for a while but a new trailer has popped up with quite a surprise. The re-release is being shown as a double feature, both films in 3D for the price of one movie ticket.

On a personal level I absolutely love this idea and think it's brilliant. The movies aren't very long either to be honest only like 1 hour and 20 minutes so this isn't bad. The problem may be for first time viewers though, as in young children. Will they really want to sit through about 3 hours of movies? As awesome as said movies might be. I'm sure they can take the kid on a small break during the intermission in between movies so maybe this caution isn't warranted. Regardless I will be there with my ticket when this comes out. Love the movies and now that I'm older I can really appreciate how they have paved the road for computer animated films.

How Halo Made Me Kill Myself

Remember the article about the new Halo: Legends anime trailer I put up a few days ago?

Remember how terrible I thought the idea was?

Remember when I pondered on the podcast as to why the FUCK teddy bears and Master Chief were in the same product?

I now present to you the TOTAL BASTARDIZATION of the Halo Franchise.

EA Press Conference (E3 2009 Live Blog)

Microsoft Press Conference Revelations

Alright so what did we learn from Microsoft this year...

1. Rock Band: The Beatles will be fantastic and how a lot more then 4 players at a time possible with singers. At the press conference they had 3 singers, 2 guitarist, and a drummer all playing on the same tracks.

2. Tony Hawk Ride: This game is just a accident waiting to happen. On top of that after showing a skate board scanned in with the new Project Natal (see Project Natal) what is the point? I think this game will sell descent at first but I just don't see it being a success in the long run.

3. Modern Warfare 2: Treat us to some gameplay and while it wasn't as mind blowing as the demo of the first game it was quite good. The snowmobile footage really brought it home and just looked like a ton of fun.

4. Final Fantasy 13: Is still coming and hopefully it will be in spring 2010. By the way I predicted that weeks ago so, yay me.

5. Epics new game (Shadow Complex): looks like it's setting a new standard for XBLA games. It is a side scrolling shooter that looks incredible. Think Bionic Commando: Rearmed times 100x and your almost there. Cliff has done it again. The game should be hitting the marketplace this summer.

6. Crackdown 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Splinter Cell Conviction: All have nice trailers and should be shown in more detail as E3 goes on. Splinter Cell got a demo and looked great from what was shown.  Sam Fisher also has a new haircut.

7. Forza Motorsport 3: Will be shipping this october and looks to greatly improve on the title.

8. Halo ODST: Had a demo which I think looked really good. The graphics weren't overly improved since Halo 3 but it still looked good. New weapons and the return of the strong pistol just excited the hell out of me.

9. Alan Wake: Not as impressive as when it was first announced but looked really promising. Spring 2010 is it's release date. Sounds good since the fall will be cluttered once again.

10. Last.fm/Netflix Live Party/Facebook/Twitter: all coming to XBL and all gonna be huge I suspect. Love 'em or hate them these add ons will have a huge presence on XBL this fall.

11. Metal Gear Rising: No MSG 4 but a new title featuring Raiden is coming to the 360. The last big 3rd title as given in and is no longer Sony exclusive.

12. Project Natal: Project Natal

Overall it was a really impressive conference that will be hard to beat. Good luck competitors.

This is episode 2 of the gaming diary. Here i talk a little bit more on my thoughts about the first big chunk of story after the beginning of Final Fantasy 12.
